5/29/2023 0 Comments Illuminations epcot endingHappily Ever After doesn’t rest on its laurels, the show has a semblance of a plot and incredible pace as well as using incredible technology. Happily Ever After plays Can You Feel the Love Tonight and I’m brought back to seeing Lion King in the theater, all while my sense are overloaded with beautiful music and amazing sights. There certainly isn’t anything wrong with that and the synchronization of the music and fireworks are incredible in their own right. Most of these shows rely heavily on nostalgia. Happily Ever After and Remember… Dreams Come True, are shows that I love, ranking among my favorites. But, when that globe floats out to the middle of the lagoon followed by the pavilions lighting up in an energetic gallop I feel something that Disney’s other spectaculars don’t make me feel.ĭon’t get me wrong, I love firework shows. The lights have faded and been refurbished but still lack punch relative to other Disney projects. The fireworks are still impressive and great. The show was a vestige of what Epcot means to me, a beautiful way to celebrate our world in a hopeful manner. Illuminations: Reflections of Earth could have lasted for another twenty years and I never would have complained. Typically, I would rather nighttime spectaculars to last a decade at most. Along with Illuminations abstract nature, this has carried the show even if it twenty years old. The central idea of the show, that we are all connected through cultures, working together for the greater good is a classic one that stands the test of time. Illuminations is my favorite nighttime spectacular at Disney World. Ultimately, I think it’s probably a mix of all three but I’m happy that Illuminations is going out like this. Lastly, it’s possible that they just want to give guests a chance to say goodbye. Maybe the new show costs more money so they are holding off on costs for a while longer. One, Disney’s new show isn’t ready hence the long goodbye. That Illuminations: Reflections of Earth isn’t closing for nearly a full calendar year can be seen a few different ways. Illuminations will be ending in the second half of 2019, according to this official post, and will be immediately followed up by a new show. Epcot’s long running nighttime spectacular, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is coming to an end. The show will end just short of its 20th birthday, as it started in October of 1999 and looks to be ending no later than September of 2019.We knew the news was coming and yesterday it was finally announced. The fact that the show hadn't been retired before now made one wonder if it ever would be. Disney fans who first saw it as little kids are now buying beers in the Germany Pavillion before seeing it as adults. The show has been part of Epcot since the last millennium. This is part of what makes Illuminations: Reflections of Earth such an interesting case. The "standard" show, whatever it is at any given park, often takes a break whenever a major holiday comes around for a special show dedicated to that holiday, but these breaks often make way for natural retirements and replacements. Of all the various attractions and shows that take place at the various Disney parks, fireworks shows are some of the most common to be replaced. Once the final performance takes place, however, a new nighttime show is set to "immediately" take its place, and if there's anything that takes the sting out of seeing a Disney Parks tradition go away, it's the bright, shiny newness of whatever takes its place. The Disney Parks Blog announced that the show is set to have its final performances at the end of summer in 2019, so you've got probably close to exactly one year to book your next trip to Walt Disney World and see IllumiNations. If you'd like to see IllumiNations one final time before it says goodbye, you do have time.
